Summary of Session 1 – Keerthana Ramkumaar

The program was commenced with a welcome speech by Rtn A Ramkumar, President of Rotrary, Coimbatore. Followed by the welcome speech an inauguration speech was given by Rtn MD R S Maruthi. He spoke about the importance of mentorship and leadership qualities. He also shared his own experiences and how mentorship has helped him in his life. 

Then Rtn Pradeep Yuvaraj delivered a session on storytelling. He started out with the failures he faced with his startup of making bikes. He then shared his story of Prezantim. At Prezantim they help companies share their stories in the form of an investment pitch tech which now has more than 600 customers.

  • Do not Assume

Storytelling:

Stories help people remember what we say even after we leave the room. With an example story, we were able to understand the concept of storytelling easily. Storytelling is not just telling something but conveying information in the form of a story so that it stays in the minds of people. Stories must be:

  • Simple
  • Concrete
  • Emotional
  • Unexpected
  • Credible

Key Learnings:

  • The easiest way to grab attention is to break a pattern. 
  • Convey a message that is concrete rather abstract
  • Breaking a pattern gives you spotlight / opportunity
  • Stories have the power to bring in credibility
  • Stories convert knowledge into meaning
